Refrigerant detector sensor

heading_title

Refrigerants are widely used in refrigerators, industrial freezers, and many other applications as an essential product for controlling thermal comfort. Since the Montreal Protocol (phasing out of ozone-depleting substances) in 1987, refrigerants such as chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and halons were first banned. Currently, the HVAC/R industry is undergoing a third refrigerant shift, this time to address the impact of climate change and global warming.

Evolution of refrigerants

The transition from fluorocarbons (CFCs) to hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) to fluorinated refrigerants (HFCs), which are chlorine-free, is a direct replacement with improved environmental characteristics. The third new refrigerants with low GWP tend to be in the A2L class, which means they are slightly flammable according to ISO 817:2014 Refrigerants - Nomenclature and Safety classification.

With new international regulations, local policies, and insurance requirements (due to hazard concerns), the addition of an A2L Refrigerant detector sensor to control and minimize risk is a necessity.

Fosensor Refrigerant detector sensor

Building on its long history of gas core sensing technology, Fosensor introduces the FS4NDIR/R454B, a powerful, long-life Refrigerant detector sensor based on NDIR technology that has been differentiated for applications in commercial, industrial, and cold chain transportation markets. Designed and fully calibrated at the factory, it has a lifetime of up to 10 years and reliably detects carbon dioxide (CO2), hydrocarbons (HC), and R32 gases (R454, R452) from ppm to 100% vol in the lower flammable limit range.

The Refrigerant detector sensor has been developed specifically for the need for more accurate detection of low concentrations of HFC and HFO gases. It utilizes patented dual light source reference method technology, is fully calibrated over the temperature range of -40°C to + 85°C, and is compensated for temperature, humidity, and pressure, allowing it to be installed directly in cold, wet, and harsh environments. It is characterized by high gas selectivity, accurate data, long-term stability, immunity to interfering sources, and fast response detection of A2L refrigerant leaks over a long period of time.

In addition to this, we have developed the FS4NDIR/R290 Refrigerant detector sensor, which also features innovative threshold outputs and digital signal outputs based on the Modus485 communication protocol, and can be directly integrated into chillers and other refrigeration equipment without the need for secondary calculation of data.
